This false-colour image of south Khartoum in Sudan was one of the first from Sentinel-2A on 28 June, five days after it arrived in orbit.

Earth From Space: Romania

This image of Romania - with the political borders in red - is a mosaic of 15 scans by Sentinel-1A's radar in October and November. The scans were acquired in 'dual polarisation' horizontal and vertical radar pulses, from which the artificial colour composite was generated.

The financial benefits of the Copernicus programme, as well as opportunities for sustainable economic growth and job creation in Europe, came into focus recently in Athens, Greece.

First Radar Vision for Copernicus

Launched on 3 April, ESA's Sentinel-1A satellite has already delivered its first radar images of Earth. They offer a tantalising glimpse of the kind of operational imagery that this new mission will provide for Europe's ambitious Copernicus environmental monitoring programme.

The ability of European citizens, policymakers and service providers to access key environmental data on a routine basis will take a major step forward following the launch today of ESA's Sentinel-1A satellite.

ESA is Preparing for Radar Vision

Sentinel-1A, Europe's first satellite for Copernicus, is almost ready for launch on 3 April. Meanwhile, ESA is showing how its advanced radar will map ice, monitor subsidence and much more.

Clouds blur our view of the snow below in parts of this image acquired over the southern tip of Greenland by the Landsat-8 satellite on 30 May. Long fjords reach far inland and, zooming in on the tips of some of their 'fingers', we can see ice streams that drain the Greenland ice sheet.
