Decided in Luxemburg by the European Space Agency council meeting at Ministerial level, Ariane 6 is a modular three-stage launcher (solid-cryogenic-cryogenic) with two configurations using: four boosters (A64) or two boosters (A62).

The European Space Agency (ESA) and Airbus Safran Launchers today signed a €2.4 billion contract covering the development of the Ariane 6 launcher in its two versions, Ariane 62 and 64.

The next ESA Ministerial Conference will take place this Tuesday in Luxembourg. At the top of the agenda is Europe's future access to space with a modular Ariane 6 intended to be meet the changing demands of the satellite industry as well as being more price competitive.

Airbus Defence and Space, number two worldwide in space technologies, has been awarded a 60-million-euro contract by the European Space Agency (ESA) to continue definition and feasibility studies in 2014 for the new Ariane 6 European launcher.

The European Space Agency (ESA) has awarded Astrium, Europe's leading space technology company, 108 million worth of prime contractor agreements covering the development of the Ariane 6 and Ariane 5 ME launchers. The contracts follow on from the decisions reached at the ESA Ministerial Council meeting in Naples on 20-21 November 2012.
